CRPASE Author Name Change Policy

The CRPASE (Computational Research Progress in Applied Science & Engineering Journal) has a policy regarding author name changes that aligns with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) initiative and guidelines, which promote inclusivity.

Under this policy, authors are allowed to replace their previous name with their current name. They can request a name change without having to provide a reason or legal proof/documentation. Instead, they must provide an updated ORCID profile and an institutional email address. It’s important to note that requests made on behalf of someone else will not be considered.

Upon receiving a name change request, CRPASE will update the author’s name in their publications. This update will encompass various aspects, including the metadata associated with the author’s profile and published articles. The updated metadata will also be shared with indexing services. References to the author within each article, such as pronouns, captions, acknowledgments, and biography, will be changed accordingly. Additionally, email addresses will be updated to reflect the new name. No public notice of the name change will be posted with the article, and co-authors/editors of previously published articles will not be notified of the change.

If desired, CRPASE will work on updating citations in other CRPASE articles that reference the author’s updated work. Authors of citing articles will be informed about these changes.

To request a name change, authors need to complete a form, and the requests will be kept confidential and managed by trained customer service professionals on a need-to-know basis. It’s important to note that submitting a name change request does not correct typographical errors in the article itself; such requests should be directed to the CRPASE Meetings, Conferences, and Events team or the CRPASE Journals Manager, depending on the type of publication.

CRPASE considers any attempt to update an author’s name without their explicit consent to be a serious ethical violation.

Additional information:
The original published version of the article and documentation related to the correction will be retained and made available upon request for valid reasons (e.g., subpoena).

While CRPASE will update its own version of the article and inform indexing services, other databases outside CRPASE’s control may not reflect the name change. Furthermore, these services may have their own policies regarding author name changes. It’s important to be aware that CRPASE cannot control how other entities handle citations to papers where an author’s name has been changed (e.g., in bibliometric calculations of h-indices). Additionally, CRPASE has no control over the use or appearance of an author’s previous name in materials from other publishers, in print, or in non-CRPASE archives or collections. Please note that requests submitted through the name change request form only update the names on published articles and do not modify conference websites and programs, where the original name associated with conference papers may still be visible.

Authors who request a name change should inform their co-authors directly about the change, as CRPASE does not notify co-authors of the update. This ensures that co-authors can correctly reference the article with the updated author information in their citations, CVs, biosketches, webpages, etc. Authors should also update any self-posted versions of the article on personal websites or institutional repositories.
